Baked Apples

Standard-

Uniform in shape.  Soft but not mushy.  Slighly sweet in taste with a flavor of the seasonings used. 

 

Recipe-

4    baking apples, Jonathan or Granny Smith

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2    teaspoons butter

1/3 cup water

 

Directions-

Preheat oven to 375-degrees.  Wash and core apples.  Pare a strip about 2-inches wide around stem end.  Place with pared ends up close together in a baking dish.  In a small bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon.  Place a tablespoon in cavity of each apple.  Put 1/2 teaspoon butter on top of each apple.  Pour water into baking dish.  Bake for about 40 minutes or until apples are tender when tested with a fork.  Baste apples occasionally as they cook with syrup from baking dish.  Serve apples in individual dishes and pour the syrup over them. 

Yield:  4 servings.
