Cheeseburger Pie

    Your family will enjoy this main dish meal served with a side salad of tossed greens. The bottom crust of this pie is hamburger, a term that stands for one of America’s favorite meats, ground beef.  Cheddar, a natural cheese adds flavor, color, and nutrition to this delicious entrée. 

 

Preparation time:   About 20 minutes.

 

Equipment you’ll need:  Non-stick skillet, wooden spoon, slotted spoon, table fork, dry measuring cups, liquid measuring cup, measuring spoons. table knife, turner, 9-inch pie plate.

 

Safety:  Ask for adult supervision when frying hamburger and disposing of grease.  Use dry potholders to put pie plate into oven and to remove.  Set hot pie plate on trivet to avoid burning counter.

 

Recipe:

3/4   pound lean ground beef

4     ounces shredded mild cheddar cheese

1/2  cup all-purpose baking mix

1     cup milk

1     large egg

      

1.  Preheat oven to 375-degrees.

2.  Fry ground beef over medium heat until well done.  Stir frequently.

3.  With slotted spoon carefully transfer beef to pie plate.

4.  Using wooden spoon press ground beef onto bottom of pie plate and lightly season.

5.  Sprinkle cheese over ground beef.

6.  In a small bowl mix egg, milk and baking mix with a fork.

7.  Pour mixture over cheese/beef.

8.  Bake for 25-30 minutes. 

9.  Let stand 15 minutes before cutting and serving. 

     Yield:  6 servings.

 

Clean up:  Turn off all stove controls immediately after use. Wipe off cook top after it has cooled.  Leave a spotless kitchen!
