Cherry Nut Tea Cookies

 

Holiday/Special Occasions

 

1     cup granulated sugar

1     stick butter

1     teaspoon vanilla

1     large egg

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour    

¼    teaspoon baking soda

1     teaspoon baking powder

½    cup finely chopped pecans

½    cup finely chopped maraschino cherries

 

Preheat oven to 350-degrees.  Cream together sugar and butter.  Add eggs, vanilla and continue beating.  Sift together flour, baking power and baking soda.  Beat into creamed mixture.  Fold in cherries and nuts.  Drop by rounded teaspoons onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper.  Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.  Cool on a wire rack. 

Yield:  2 dozen cookies
