Chocolate Dipped Apples

Kids Cooking

Crisp fall apples are dipped in melted chocolate and rolled in assorted toppings.  Braeburn, Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, or Roma apples are best for dipping.   Put the apples in the refrigerator while preparing the chocolate.  They will coat better if kept cold.  Shredded coconut, chopped nuts, toffee pieces, or crushed Oreos are tasty toppings.  Wrap the finished apples in cellophane, tie with a ribbon, and you’ve got a great treat or spectacular gift.  Always leave the kitchen clean for your parents.

Recipe:

6      small crisp-tart apples

16    ounces semisweet chocolate, milk or dark

6      wooden popsicle sticks

        Toppings

Wash and thoroughly dry the apples.  Twist off the stems and push stick down into the core.  Melt chocolate over a double boiler and stir until smooth.   Gently dip the apples into the chocolate and roll around, making sure to thoroughly cover. Put desired toppings in separate bowls and roll dipped apples.    Set on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper.  Refrigerate until chocolate is set, about 20 minutes.

Yield:  6 apples.
