Crockpot Ham & Beans – Jo Ann Jones
“Make sure that you have plenty of juice on the beans as
they cook. That always goes over well
when you serve them with cornbread. The
cornbread soaks up the juice when eaten with the beans. Nice combination. Try it, it’s easy!”
The crockpot is the best way to cook beans. I don’t soak mine over night. I put the beans in the pot and turn it on
high. I fill the pot about 2/3 full of
water. Heat the beans up to where they
are steaming then shut them off for half a day or until they cool down. This softens the beans. The beans have salt in them early. When I am ready to fully cook the beans I put
in the ham and it is best with a bone. Sometimes
I add carrots. I think it gives a little
sweet taste. I have also added onions,
it is really cooks choice. It will take
at least 3-4 hours to cook them fully.
When done, beans should be whole but soft. They can be easily crushed with a fork. Anything harder needs to be cooked more.
