Egg in a
Frame
Sometimes
called “Egg in a Frame” it’s easy to become a real short-order cook with this
recipe. Serve this all in one breakfast dish with grape or tomato
juice. Select whole wheat or multi-grain bread. Both are good
sources of Vitamin B and fiber. This could turn into a family project where
each person prepares they’re own.
Preparation time: About 5 minutes.
Equipment you’ll need: Non-stick skillet and turner, 3 inch round
cookie cutter, cutting board, liquid measuring cup and table knife.
Safety: Cook on medium heat.
Protein foods like eggs become tough if cooked on high heat. Use a dry
potholder to hold skillet handle when removing food.
Recipe
1 slice whole grain bread
1 large egg
Kosher salt and fresh ground pepper
1. Place bread on cutting board and cut a hole in
the center.
2. Using the back of a table knife, break egg
into small liquid measuring cup and scramble (mix).
3. Spray skillet with a spray of canola oil and
preheat on medium for 1 minute.
4. Place bread in skillet and pour egg into
hole.
5. Lightly season with salt and pepper
6. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until egg is “set”
and bread golden brown.
7. Turn the bread (with egg) over. Continue
cooking until the bread is golden brown, about 1 minute.
Clean up: Wait until skillet cools before
washing. Clean cook top. Wash dishes in hot soapy water,
rinse, dry and put away.
