Festive Franks

Kids Cooking

Hot dogs are among America’s favorite foods that are primarily eaten between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  Other names they are called are:  frankfurters, franks, weenies, wieners, and dogs.   Crescent rolls are basted with barbecue sauce, sprinkled with shredded cheese and wrapped around a hot dog.    They are baked until golden brown and served with barbecue dipping sauce.

Preparation time:  About 15 minutes.

Equipment you’ll need:  Basting brush, table knife, cutting board, baking sheet, turner or tongs, and a serving platter.

Safety:  Use dry potholders to put baking pan into oven and remove.

Recipe

1       8-ounce package crescent roll dough

1/3    cup BQ sauce

4       ounces finely shredded Cheddar cheese
8       Healthy choice franks

         BQ sauce for dipping

1.  Preheat oven to 350-degrees.  Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.  Set aside.

2.  Unroll dough and separate into 8 triangles.  Cut each triangle in half lengthwise

     to make 2 triangles.

3.  Lightly spread BQ sauce over each triangle.  Sprinkle with cheese.

4.  Cut each frank in half and trim off rounded ends.  Place one frank piece at large

     end of one dough triangle.

5.  Roll up jell-roll style from wide end.  Place point side down on baking sheet.

6.  Bake 13-15 minutes or until dough is golden brown.  Cool 1 to 2 minutes on

     baking sheet.

7.  Serve with additional barbecue sauce, if desired.

     Yield:  8 servings of 2.

Clean up:    Turn off oven immediately after use.  Have fun in the kitchen, but already remember to clean up.
