Holiday Cheese Candle

Kids Cooking

Light the way for Santa with a Christmas Candle.  Two cheeses are blended with sour cream and rolled in sesame seeds to create a delicious cheese spread.  A few drops of hot pepper sauce can add a bit more flavor.  Prepare in 20 minutes or a day or two ahead of time.   Serve with whole grain crackers.  As a special present for your parents, do a little extra cleaning in the kitchen.

Recipe

1     8-ounce package cream cheese, softened

3     cups finely shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

1/4  cup sour cream

1/2  teaspoon garlic powder

2     teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

2     tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, stems removed

       Sesame seeds, toasted

       Red Jalapeņo pepper

In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, Cheddar cheese, sour cream, and seasonings.  For the candle base, use one-cup cheese mixture to form a 4-inch circle. Sprinkle parsley over to resemble greenery.  Form the remaining cheese mixture into a cylinder shape candle.  Refrigerate for one hour.  Toast sesame seeds by placing in a small dry nonstick skillet over medium heat.  Add a sprinkle of salt and stir constantly about 5 minutes.  Let cool before rolling to lightly cover candle. Place candle in center of base.  Cut off top of pepper to resemble a flame and insert into the top of the candle.  Cover and refrigerate until served.  Serve with whole grain crackers.

Yield:  4 cups.
