Hummus
Dip
Hummus is a thick Middle
Eastern dip composed of chickpeas (garbanzo beans), lemon juice, garlic, and
spicy seasonings. Some recipes call for tahini, a paste made from sesame seeds. Fun stir-ins can include, green olives, black
olives, crunchy celery, and pine nuts.
Serve with pita chips, crudités, or whole grain crackers. Ask an adult
to operate and clean the food processor or blender. Now
enjoy your hummus and know you are getting valuable protein and fiber. Always clean up as you cook.
Recipe:
1 15 1/2-ounce can chickpeas
2 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup minced sweet onion
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
leaves
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
Hot pepper sauce to
taste
Add all ingredients to food processor or blender jar. Cover and process until smooth. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hour for flavors
to blend. Yield: 16 tablespoons.
