Kielbasa Coins/Apples

Kids Cooking

Sausage “coins” and apple slices are cooked in apple juice and glazed with apple jelly and maple syrup.  Kielbasa is a seasoned, smoked sausage.  It is usually sold precooked and made from beef, pork and/or turkey.  Smoked sausage can be substituted.  Ask an adult to drain the apple juice.  Always clean as you cook.

Recipe:

1      pound fully cooked Kielbasa sausage

1      large Fuji apple,

1      cup apple juice

1/2   cup apple jelly

2      tablespoons maple syrup

Using kitchen scissors, cut sausage into 1–inch slices.  Using a corer/slicer, cut apple into 8 sections.   In a nonstick skillet, bring sausage and apples to a boil in apple juice.  Cover and cook for 5 minutes.  Uncover and cook 5 minutes longer.  Drain.  In a measuring cup, whisk together jelly and syrup.  Over medium heat, pour over, stir to cover, and cook until sausage and apples are glazed.  Yield:  4 servings.
