Old Fashioned Oatmeal

1       cup old fashioned whole grain oats

1 3/4 cups water

        Dash of kosher salt

 

In a saucepan, bring water to a rolling boil and add a dash of salt.  Slowly stir oats into the boiling water.  Continue stirring until the water boils again.  Reduce heat to medium and cook 5 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally.  Serve immediately!

Yield:  2 servings. 

 

Try one or more of these toppings!

Dairy:            butter, cream, margarine or yogurt

Dried fruit:   golden raisins, raisins, dried apricots, cranberries or peaches

Fresh fruit:   bananas, strawberries, chopped apples or pears

Nuts:             granola, chopped almonds, pecans or walnuts

Spices:          cinnamon or nutmeg

Sweetening: brown sugar, granulated sugar, honey or maple syrup.
