Soft Molasses Cookies

“This is a recipe of my grandmother – Olga Geissel Felts, mother of my father LaVern.  She died before I was born but my Aunts made these and I always appreciated the taste.  My Dad said Grandma was a great cook.”

 

1 ½  cup shortening

1      cup granulated sugar

1      cup brown sugar

2      eggs

½     cup molasses

Cream together shortening and two sugars.  Add eggs and molasses. 

 

Beat in gradually---

4 ½ cups flour

1     teaspoon ginger

4     teaspoons soda

1     teaspoon  cloves

1     teaspoons salt

1     teaspoon cinnamon

 

Mix well.  Chill dough 1 hour.  Roll dough into balls and then roll into granulated sugar.  Bake 10-12 minutes at 375-degrees.  Do not overbake! 

Yield:  6-8 dozen.
