WatermelonPops

Kids Cooking

On a hot summer day, prepare a refreshing frozen melon treat.  Pops are cut from slices of watermelon and mounted on popsicle sticks.  Choose a crisp dense crunchy flesh seedless watermelon.  The melons contain white pips called ‘initials’ that are totally edible.  Save leftover pieces for a fruit salad.  Choose melons that are heavy and free of bruises.  Ask an adult to cut the melon and prepare the slices.   Always leave the kitchen clean!

Recipe:

1   seedless watermelon

Cut the watermelon in half horizontally.  Place melon cut side down on a cutting board and cut 1-inch thick vertical slices.  Using a metal 2-inch round cookie or biscuit cutter, cut out pops, and insert popsicle sticks in the bottom.  Place the pops on a foil lined baking sheet.  Cover with another sheet of foil and freeze for an hour or until firm.   Remove from freezer a few minutes before eating and serve with a dip.
